PLAY

Our redesign of Antlion is an endless side-scrolling rogue-lite where players play as an ant and run through various terrain filled with obstacles to run away from the deadly antlion. Along the way, they can search for power-ups by digging through grass and choose permanent buffs at the anthill checkpoints. There are various power-up options, such as an increase in eating speed, increases in running speed, or if unlucky, will spawn a hazard in the grass slowing the player down. If the antlion catches up, the ant will get eaten!

ARGON CHALICE

Our redesign of Argon Chalice is a puzzle platformer that is intertwined with a narrative about a young princess. After the death of her father passes the weight of the royal throne on her shoulder, a naïve princess sets out on a perilous journey navigating back home through a forest. The player controls the princess and must solve puzzles and pass trials to gain powers by collecting the scattered gems of the Argon Chalice.

Players are wandering traders looking to gain wealth. They must travel around the play area, collect resources from designated areas and transport them to towns to sell them. The goal of the game is to be the first to complete a certain number of Royal Orders. The game has two modes for different lengths of gameplay. In Blitz mode, players race to be the first to complete one Royal Order. In the regular mode, players must complete 3 Royal Orders. Players must manage their resources to keep their pace in order to beat other players to the goal first, while also being wary of economic fluctuations, supplies, world events, and other players.

These projects were created for IAT 312, Foundations of game design, in the Spring 24 semester at Simon Fraser University. Studio C was our group name which encompasses all three projects facilitated by senior lecturer Eric Yang and teaching assistant Morteza Malekmakan.
